Objective
"The ""Beyond Epicenters"" project introduces an innovative disaster risk assessment methodology that addresses the complexities of
interconnected regional systems by integrating economic, social, and infrastructural interdependencies. Key innovations include
dynamic disaster classification maps and multi-layered vulnerability models, enabled by advanced algorithms and high-resolution
data integration. These tools aim to identify cascading impacts and systemic risks, significantly enhancing disaster resilience and risk
mitigation strategies. Real-world validation will utilize data from seismic events in Türkiye and Morocco, as well as tsunami risk
assessments in Portugal, demonstrating the methodology’s adaptability across diverse disaster scenarios.
The project is supported by a robust interdisciplinary consortium comprising Universities and SMEs from Portugal, Germany, Norway,
Türkiye, Ukraine, Morocco, and Azerbaijan, combining expertise in operations research, remote sensing, and disaster management. By
aligning with global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework and the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, this initiative advances
proactive disaster preparedness and response. Its systemic approach provides actionable insights for policymakers, setting a new
standard in disaster resilience and fostering international collaboration to address complex disaster challenges."
