Objective
AI4SUSTAIN addresses the urgent need to forecast and close skill gaps in Europe’s labour markets in the context of the Green Deal, digital transformation, and demographic change. The project develops advanced AI and machine learning methods to deliver transparent, explainable labour market forecasting and skills intelligence, focusing on sectors vital to decarbonisation such as renewable energy, energy-intensive industries, and sustainable infrastructure. The consortium unites academia, industry, and policy organisations across Europe and uses cross-sectoral staff exchanges to connect AI innovation with workforce applications. Human-in-the-loop approaches ensure systems remain trustworthy, fair, and aligned with EU values, while co-design engages participants through surveys, workshops, and pilots. All activities comply with GDPR, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and anticipate the forthcoming AI Act, applying privacy-by-design, bias mitigation, and transparency safeguards. A strong gender dimension runs throughout, from gender-sensitive skills analysis to inclusive reskilling pathways, tackling the underrepresentation of women and marginalised groups in AI and energy professions. AI4SUSTAIN delivers six key exploitable results: (1) AI4SUSTAIN Portal for inclusive labour market intelligence; (2) Green Skills Taxonomy Navigator to classify and anticipate transition skills; (3) Career Foresight Simulator for scenario-based planning; (4) Career Quest, a gamified reskilling pathway; (5) Workforce Impact Intelligence Engine linking skills, labour and policy insights; and (6) Policy Toolkit with Sandbox to test and refine policy innovations. Together, these create an integrated ecosystem to anticipate skills needs, reduce human capital waste and design adaptive, future-oriented labour policies. Expected impacts include stronger skills forecasting, more effective labour and education systems, higher workforce competitiveness in the green and digital transitions.
