Transformative nanotechnology drug delivery platform enabling eradication of micrometastases in ovarian cancer

Objective

NaDeNo is a Norwegian biopharma company advancing a proprietary nanotechnology platform to transform local drug delivery and retention at disease sites. Originating from SINTEF, Europe’s leading research institute, NaDeNo builds on decades of nanotherapeutic expertise. Its lead program, PACAB-002, is a novel nanoformulation of cabazitaxel designed for intraperitoneal treatment of micrometastases in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC)—a major unmet need where systemic therapies fail due to poor vascularization. By encapsulating the drug in poly(alkyl cyanoacrylate) (PACA) nanoparticles, PACAB-002 achieves efficient transport, tumour adhesion, and sustained local release, overcoming limitations of free drugs and conventional intraperitoneal formulations. Preclinical studies demonstrated 100% survival and a 97% tumour weight reduction compared to non-encapsulated cabazitaxel, highlighting its potential to reduce relapse rates and improve outcomes.

Our platform brings together multiple innovations that redefine how drugs can be formulated and delivered: 1) a unique ability to solubilize and encapsulate poorly soluble drugs with novel chemistries; 2) a proprietary one-step, low-cost, scalable manufacturing process; and 3) distinctive mode of action enabling receptor-independent tissue accumulation and retention. Beyond PACAB-002, the platform could unlock new therapeutic opportunities by reviving potent but poorly soluble compounds, for next-generation oncology and other hard-to-formulate treatments.

NaDeNo plans to initiate a phase 1/2a trial for PACAB-002 in 2H 2026, aiming for market entry in 2033. Financial projections model €4.2B lifetime revenues, with royalties reinvested into platform expansion. To achieve this, NaDeNo seeks EIC Accelerator support (€2.5M grant, €7.5M equity) to advance PACAB-002 into clinical development and establish a new standard of care for ovarian cancer.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
