Objective
NAVI is a pioneering project advancing Generative AI (GenAI) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies to enable high-performance and hyper-personalised immersive experiences in Virtual Worlds (VW). In this context, NAVI introduces a new generation of smart, people-centred and accessible 3D digital assistants powered by GenAI. NAVI will drive innovation across the following four pillars: i) Multimodal and personalised interactions in VW, including sign language support; ii) High-performance and safe GenAI at the edge; iii) Explainable AI (XAI) and behavioural Decision Support Systems; and iv) Expressive and culturally sensitive 3D avatars. These innovations will result in edge digital assistants that communicate effectively and inclusively with diverse users, provide accurate and reliable knowledge, and deliver personalised, transparent recommendations to support users in decision-making processes. Furthermore, NAVI will seek active collaboration with AI, Data and Robotics (ADRA) and the VW Partnership, aligning with their vision of advancing AI and VR technologies in Europe. NAVI will also involve the effective contribution of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) disciplines, as well as the active participation of representatives from European deaf and autistic communities to enhance the societal impact of the project. Finally, NAVI will demonstrate its advancements in four relevant VR environments across representative sectors (culture, healthcare, manufacturing, education), reaching TRL6 during the project execution. This approach will showcase NAVI assistants’ capabilities to provide safe and inclusive navigation in VW while offering new adapted communication, learning and training modalities. Beyond the project, NAVI will follow a clear exploitation plan aimed at driving the commercialisation of its results. In addition, through dedicated replicability studies, NAVI will foster the adoption of its system across both public and private sectors in Europe.
