Post-irradiation multiscale dynamics of materials

Objective

The PRISMA project encompasses a state-of-the-art innovative research programme that aims to significantly advance our understanding of irradiation-driven multiscale dynamics in materials, based on multiscale modelling and thorough validation using advanced experimental techniques, and linking this new knowledge to the advancement of technological applications.

The essential goal of PRISMA is to establish a rigorous multiscale theory linking atomic, nano and microscopic effects with their macroscopic outcomes. This will be achieved using advanced computational methods for multiscale modelling – relativistic molecular dynamics (MD), reactive MD, irradiation driven MD, stochastic dynamics – and their interlinks. Results will be validated through cutting-edge experiments by the project partners.

The PRISMA project will specifically focus on three interconnected case studies linked to relevant to technological applications such as microscopy, material functionalisation, radioresistance, controlled nanofabrication, novel crystal based gamma-ray light sources. A novel and innovative aspect will concern studying the effects of nonlinear post-irradiation medium dynamics and radiation-induced large-scale phenomena in technology relevant materials.

The PRISMA consortium comprises leading academic and non-academic partners in atomic and molecular physics, physical chemistry, condensed matter physics, materials science, and advanced computing, who will provide the most comprehensive understanding of irradiation-driven phenomena in selected materials, paving the way for the advancement of the above technologies.

PRISMA will also provide a comprehensive training programme for researchers and innovators, especially those at early career stages, in the use of modern computational and experimental tools in this highly interdisciplinary area of modern research and technology.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
