Objective
With a contribution of 1.4% to Europe’s GDP (2022), declining demographic trends (size of population and age), limited access to digital and hardware infrastructure and the benefits they can provide to optimize resource use, reduce environmental footprint and increase productivity, agriculture is one of the sectors in which actions that enable the exchange and replication of good practices and use cases, and piloting emerging and proven digital technology solutions present greatest potential to advance the EU Green Deal agenda and reduce its global contribution to anthropogenic GHG emissions.
In this scenario and coordinated by EIT Digital, Europe’s largest digital innovation ecosystem, RIV AGRITECHVALLEY emerges as a unique opportunity to establish connected innovation valleys across 7 European highly intensive agriregions with different levels of innovation uptake, by bringing together public authorities, farmer communities, and the private and research sectors to address EU and national/regional policies, support farmers, start-ups and scale-ups growth, promote the uptake of digital technologies, and foster entrepreneurship.
