Revitalising public spaces through co-design of place-based innovative street furniture

Objective

"StreetRevival is poised to transform public spaces into vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable environments through innovative place-based street furniture, digital innovations and co-creation. StreetRevival will support 4 cities across Europe, in implementing “on the ground"" transformation in targeted neighborhoods with regeneration plans backed by over €85 million in secured funding. Through the establishment of 4 NEB Facilities, it will foster placemaking and co-creation, by actively engaging diverse stakeholder groups, including public authorities, designers, furniture manufacturers, SMEs, citizens and citizen associations, to ultimately co-design and prototype more than 50 street furniture designs. Central to StreetRevival's vision is providing clear, easy-to-understand guidance on how to support public authorities towards sustainable and innovation procurement for the case of street furniture. StreetRevival’s digital innovations, will facilitate virtual co-design and simulation, vegetation assessment, ergonomics, accessibility and lifecycle sustainability considerations into products as well as integration of energy efficiency and smart digital aspects. StreetRevival’s tailored training programs will support capacity building and knowledge exchange across the EU. Its novel funding mechanisms, which blend public support with private capital will enable the realization of marketable sustainable solutions, aiming to make the application of NEB more concrete and tangible while drawing inspiration from NEB investment Guidelines. Ultimately, StreetRevival aspires to create beautiful, dynamic hubs of social interaction that enhance quality of life, promote climate-neutral economies, and offer a replicable model for cities worldwide, integrating project results into one common space through its Placemaking and Co-creation Hub. 21 partners from 9 European countries will collaborate and provide their expertise and resources within the 42 months of StreetRevival lifetime."
