Risk Education and Mines/Explosives Detection (or Disposal) Improvment Strategies

Objective

Improving the effectiveness of landmine/unexploded ordnance clearance and land release requires holistically addressing the technical challenges of locating and removing hazardous objects quickly, safely and effectively; the need for more widely applied standard survey and reporting protocols and curricula based on objective principles; and more effective explosive ordnance risk eduction (EORE). REMEDIS addresses each of these components.
First, REMEDIS will design, test and validate the performance of combined (fused) remote aerial sensing solutions to significantly improve humanitarian mine detection and streamline clearance prioritization and disposal workflows. The combined system will incorporate a range of remote sensing solutions and objectively assess and rank the performance of different sensor combinations at different cost points and complexity levels, to ensure that the widest possible range of operators can benefit and act in coordination, irrespective of technical sophistication or financial resources.
Second, REMEDIS will generate a set of best practices and training curricula for the optimal deployment of different aerial detection sensor systems for different environments. In collaboration with Ukrainian state and NGO partners, the conditions and requirements specific to the Ukrainian environment will be addressed. The ultimate goal is to standardise and organise aerial mapping and detection on the largest possible scale, for the largest possible benefits and cost savings.
Third, to address persistent EORE implementation and coordination gaps, REMEDIS will generate execute a rigorous, policy-relevant EORE empirical assessment leading to scalable, effective EORE that reduces casualties and strengthens European mine action frameworks. The assessment will evaluate current EORE across delivery modalities, co-design interventions with communities, document transferable lessons, and produce actionable policy tools for the EU and national authorities

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
