Objective
Immunotherapy is revolutionising cancer treatment, providing advantages over traditional chemotherapy. Instead of injection of toxic chemical compounds, immunotherapy activates body's native defences to kill abnormal tissues, such as cancer cells. In addition, activated immune system offers long term protection against recurrence of cancer.
However, current immunotherapies – Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and CAR T – have reached critical limitations: the incredible effects are only achieved in select cases and further innovation is only incremental. Thus, to make immunotherapy universal, a qualitative leap is required.
mRNA as a therapeutic has the potential to create the next level cancer immunotherapy, serious challenges remain. mRNA needs a delivery system that helps it reach the interior of the specific immune cells, but the current-state-of-the-art delivery technology is LNP (lipid nanoparticles), accumulates mRNA off-target into liver, where it has no impact on neither immune system activation nor tumours.
Vectiopep has developed a precision drug delivery method that enables selective transport of mRNA into the patients' immune cells in spleen. The proprietary delivery technology relies on natural, biodegradable peptides, offering an advantage over artificial lipids. By combining the precision delivery with the capacity of a single mRNA to encode multiple antigens, Vectiopep can simultaneously educate and activate powerful killer immune cells for a robust, multi-pronged attack on cancer.
Vectiopep has demonstrated in several aggressive animal tumour models that the technology treats cancer, is effective even at low doses, and has long-lasting effects. Thus, the technology has the potential to bring about the required qualitative leap in cancer immunotherapy.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
