Objective
___SandCASLE is an AI-enhanced multisensory learning platform that transforms a physical sandbox into an adaptive educational and therapeutic environment. Through depth cameras, projection mapping, and lightweight AI models, the system recognises users’ gestures, reconstructs sand topography in real time, and overlays dynamic visual and acoustic feedback. This creates an intuitive, hands-on interface that supports exploration of geography, physics, art, emotional literacy, spatial reasoning, and sensory regulation.
Designed for schools, therapy centres, and museums, SandCASLE addresses the needs of both mainstream learners and neurodiverse users, including children requiring sensory integration support. Its modular architecture integrates sand-morphology reconstruction, gesture recognition, and adaptive feedback tuned to different motor and sensory profiles. Educators and therapists can activate configurable learning scenarios, adjust difficulty, and personalise activities without technical expertise.
The project follows a structured development pathway, moving from requirements and early prototyping (M1–M6), to full AI and projection-mapping integration (M4–M12), and finally to real-world deployment and validation across three pilot sites (M12–M20). User studies assess performance, engagement, accessibility, and impact, providing evidence for refinement and the release of a final TRL6 prototype (M24).
In parallel, the project develops a sustainable and scalable business model, integrating circular-design principles and digital product passports aligned with emerging EU Ecodesign and sustainable-electronics regulations. Market validation, IP protection, and investment-readiness activities support SandCASLE’s transition toward commercial uptake.
SandCASLE offers an innovative tool for experiential learning, therapy, and cultural engagement, bridging physical and digital exploration through intuitive, immersive play.
