MEDIQ Index - Local Clinical AI assistant for Real-Time Patient Summarization and Query

Objective

MEDIQ Index develops a secure, hospital-resident clinical AI assistant that reconstructs a patient’s full medical story from fragmented clinical documents and delivers accurate summaries, context extraction and clinician-driven Q&A with full citation and provenance. The project addresses two core objectives: (1) improving clinical efficiency and safety by reducing documentation burden and supporting faster decision-making, and (2) enabling privacy-preserving secondary use of derived clinical embeddings, aligned with EHDS and GDPR requirements.
To achieve this, the project advances a TRL-4 prototype to TRL-6 through interoperable data ingestion, privacy-preserving and federated learning architecture, hybrid AI model development, and multi-site clinical validation. The system ensures data sovereignty: all identifiable patient data remain on-premise, while only encrypted, non-reversible model artefacts may be processed in secure cloud components.
The work plan combines technical, clinical, and market activities, including clinician-centric UI development, sandbox testing, multi-site pilots, KPI-driven performance evaluation, and a structured go-to-market pathway. Early adopters engaged through Letters of Intent support validation and initial uptake. Communication, dissemination, and exploitation actions ensure visibility, scientific contribution, and commercial readiness.
By project completion, MEDIQ Index will deliver a validated, explainable, high-trust clinical AI assistant and a credible market strategy, directly supporting the work programme’s goals of strengthening EU technological capacity, trustworthy AI adoption in healthcare, and data-driven health innovation.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
