Objective
The BRAINFRAME project addresses the persistent challenges faced by neuroscience research and education in Widening countries such as Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, and the Czech Republic, which lag behind due to fragmented infrastructures, limited access to advanced methodologies, and gaps in digital innovation and international collaboration. By establishing a sustainable, interconnected framework for translational neuroscience excellence, BRAINFRAME aims to modernise and strengthen the research and innovation dimension of higher education institutions in these regions. Aligned with the HORIZON-WIDERA-2025-01-ACCESS-01 call and the ERA Policy Agenda, the project fosters institutional reform, knowledge valorisation, and the development of a new generation of professionals skilled in AI, FAIR data management, and digital integration. Leveraging collaborations with leading European institutions and SMEs, BRAINFRAME promotes advanced AI-driven data integration, harmonised protocols, and capacity-building initiatives that span the entire translational neuroscience continuum—from molecular and cellular research to clinical applications. These efforts empower partner institutions to overcome infrastructural and knowledge barriers, accelerate career development, enhance cross-border training and mobility, and contribute to a robust European Research Area for brain health innovation. Through sustainable alliances, state-of-the-art core facilities, and shared governance frameworks, BRAINFRAME ensures long-term institutional transformation and global competitiveness of neuroscience research in Widening countries, cementing their role as key contributors to Europe’s brain health ecosystem.
