Wind Turbine for Suburban and Industrial Decentralised Power Generation

Objective

Sirocco Energy proposes the development and demonstration of a 100 kW compact wind turbine designed specifically for suburban and industrial users facing high energy costs, volatile tariffs, and increasing pressure to decarbonise. Building on the validated performance of the company’s 8 kW and 30 kW pilot turbines, the project aims to advance the 100 kW system from TRL 4 to TRL 6 through detailed engineering, prototyping, and real-world testing.

The project addresses the work programme by delivering an affordable, low-noise, low-footprint renewable energy solution suitable for businesses, municipalities, and energy-vulnerable regions, including Ukraine. Key objectives include:
(1) completing aero-structural and drivetrain modelling and finalising component selection;
(2) issuing a full manufacturing package and building a pilot-ready prototype;
(3) installing and operating the turbine under real suburban conditions to verify performance, loads, acoustics, safety, and reliability;
(4) validating the business model through customer interviews, feasibility studies, and early commercial agreements; and
(5) preparing the commercial and investment framework for pre-series production.

The project will generate measurable impact by enabling onsite renewable generation at an LCOE of €0.03–0.06/kWh—up to four times cheaper than typical EU and Ukrainian industrial tariffs—and by providing night-time and winter energy complementary to PV. By reducing dependence on fossil-fuel-based grids, supporting energy resilience, and enabling rapid deployment, the innovation contributes directly to REPowerEU, the European Green Deal, and Ukraine’s energy recovery priorities.

Upon completion, Sirocco Energy will enter pre-commercial scale-up, initiate CE-marking and EN/IEC conformity processes, and prepare for wider EU and Ukrainian market deployment through strategic partnerships, certification readiness, and investor-oriented commercial planning.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
