Objective
ExtraVision is a Ukrainian deep-tech healthtech company developing a next-generation AR- and ML-powered platform that transforms neurosurgical preparation and intraoperative decision-making. Founded by practising surgeons, the company has earned multiple recognitions, including winning the WHO Health Hackathon and IT Arena in 2024 and receiving an EIC-funded Seeds of Bravery grant.
Neurosurgical preparation remains a critical bottleneck: surgeons must mentally reconstruct complex 3D anatomy from 2D slices in a long, cognitively demanding process, while key information is fragmented across PACS, radiology reports, and clinical notes. Selecting the safest surgical path is often uncertain, and most hospitals lack access to costly navigation systems, leaving the majority of neurosurgeons dependent on manual, error-prone workflows.
ExtraVision directly addresses these constraints by converting CT/MRI scans into anatomically precise, patient-specific 3D holograms, generated through proprietary ML-driven segmentation trained on 30,000 clinical images. Using off-the-shelf AR headsets, surgeons can analyse anatomy, plan trajectories, and reference the same models in the operating room, enabling fast, reliable planning in any hospital. Early validation in 200 operations demonstrated strong clinical demand for an affordable, surgeon-centred planning tool.
The AR surgical planning market is projected to reach $1.6 billion by 2030, while ExtraVision revenues are projected to rise from initial sales in 2028 to more than €18 million by 2032. Beyond commercial potential, ExtraVision supports Ukraine’s recovery by enabling high-quality surgical care in resource-constrained hospitals, restoring surgical capacity through improved training, and serving as a high-value medtech export. The company seeks EIC support to advance its platform from TRL 5 to TRL 7 by developing the advanced prototype and conducting a clinical demonstration to generate the evidence required for CE marking.
