1HealthAI Advanced Experimental AI-Optimised Platform

Objective

This experimental platform focuses on three core pillars to improve the performance, energy efficiency, and security of AI applications.

First, the project researches Processing in Memory (PIM) and Processing using Memory (PuM) to reduce data movement and energy consumption. A major output is the development of the first open-source FPGA-based DDR5 testing infrastructure. This platform is used to identify hardware vulnerabilities like RowHammer and implement Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) to uniquely authenticate neural networks and hardware.

Second, it deploys an All-Optical Quantum Coherent Ising Machine (QO-CIM) capable of at least 100 modes. This photonic hardware is designed to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems—which can have many applications in AI—entirely through an optical route, bypassing electronic bottlenecks to achieve higher speed and efficiency.

Third, the project advances Distributed Quantum Computing (DQC) tools to integrate Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) with HPC systems. This includes upgrading the CUNQA emulation framework, developing a reference implementation for QMPI (Quantum Message Passing Interface), and creating an intelligent scheduler for hybrid classical-quantum AI training.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
