Objective
FluoRok introduces a breakthrough in sustainable chemical manufacturing by developing the first safe and scalable process for producing lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6), a key component in lithium-ion batteries. FluoRok’s patented technology eliminates reliance on hazardous intermediates like hydrogen fluoride and also leverages fluorinated waste streams rather than mined minerals, creating the first circular supply chain for LiPF6 production. This innovative approach reduces costs, environmental impact, and safety risks whilst ensuring a secure, localised source for Europe’s rapidly expanding battery industry supply chain. FluoRok will critically become the very first EU-based producer of LiPF6, ensuring that we no longer have to depend on Asia for access to this crucial fluorochemical.
The objectives are to validate this technology at an industrial scale, build a small-scale manufacturing facility capable of producing up to 45 metric tons annually, and establish early revenues through customer partnerships. These goals will be achieved by refining the production process, automating operations, and qualifying the product with major industry players. The project aligns with the European Union’s sustainability and energy autonomy initiatives, addressing supply chain vulnerabilities and supporting the transition to green energy.
Through this project, FluoRok aims to position Europe as a leader in clean energy manufacturing, paving the way for future global expansion and reducing reliance on imported materials. This initiative supports key EU policies promoting innovation, competitiveness, and environmental responsibility.
