Objective
All4SR supports the European Commissions Pilot Programme on Societal Readiness across climate, energy and mobility research. The project will help ensure that new research results are shaped by the needs, concerns and expectations of society, and that collaboration between scientific fields and societal actors is well planned, implemented and understood. The project will work with all funded Pilot projects to understand how they interpret and apply Societal Readiness, including how they involve different groups, how they work across disciplines, and how they respond to concerns raised during their research.
To achieve this, All4SR will combine four main lines of work. First, it will build a shared 'Forum' for all Pilots, offering structured opportunities for learning, discussion and support, including through convening annual workshops. Second, it will develop an open public 'Platform' that provides accessible guidance, examples and resources to help future research teams understand and use Societal Readiness practices. Third, it will run a research 'Observatory' to analyse project plans, early reports and final experiences across all Pilots, identifying strengths, challenges and lessons for future programmes. Finally, it will work with the European Commission and National Contact Point networks to provide clear and practical recommendations for how Societal Readiness can be embedded in future calls and future project designs.
The project directly responds to the work programme by monitoring and evaluating the Societal Readiness pilot, identifying effective interdisciplinary and stakeholder practices, supporting the exchange of experiences between project teams, and proposing a simple, clear and replicable approach that can be used for a wide range of research and innovation activities. Its results will strengthen future European research (especially in Cluster 5) by helping it to be more responsive, inclusive and aligned with real societal needs.
