EXpanding future-ready transport and logistics digital InnovaTiOn

Objective

The Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) framework is the EU’s common system for the electronic exchange of freight transport information between Economic Operators and Competent Authorities, based on harmonised data sets, common technical standards and certified platforms. By July 2027, all Member States must be able to accept specific freight information through eFTI-compliant platforms. While this represents a major step forward, eFTI currently addresses only a limited, compliance-driven use of data and does not yet enable broader interoperability and value creation across European supply chains, especially for SMEs.
EXITO places eFTI at the core of the project and aims to evolve it from a regulatory reporting mechanism into a trusted digital backbone for European logistics. In line with Horizon Europe priorities on digitalisation, interoperability, SME participation and the green transition, EXITO will extend the role of eFTI platforms beyond basic B2A compliance to also support B2B data exchange and value-added services. These include emissions and sustainability reporting, collaborative logistics, data space applications and other cross-policy use cases aligned with EU transport and climate objectives.
Building strictly on the eFTI Regulation and its implementation specifications, EXITO will develop and demonstrate an eFTI-compliant logistics data space and a set of interoperable, secure and cost-effective digital services. The consortium will co-design these solutions with public authorities, logistics operators and SMEs and test them in real-life, multimodal and cross-border operational settings across several EU countries.
Through large-scale demonstrations, performance and interoperability assessment, training activities and replication guidelines, EXITO will strengthen the adoption, scalability and long-term impact of eFTI platforms, contributing to a more efficient, sustainable and inclusive European freight transport system.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
