Objective
GENESIS-EU accelerates the deployment of generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Europe’s energy system to support digitalisation, decarbonisation, and resilience. The project develops interoperable, trustworthy, and deployment-ready GenAI tools for electricity system operators, energy service providers, energy communities, and active consumers, enhancing planning, operation, and flexibility management across transmission, distribution, and demand-side contexts.
To achieve this, GENESIS-EU establishes a scalable digital spine integrating semantic interoperability, AI-ready data pipelines, synthetic data generation, multimodal and uncertainty-aware forecasting, and GenAI-enabled decision-aware optimisation. These capabilities are combined into modular tools for scenario generation, flexibility assessment, regulatory and standards intelligence, and human-centric decision support. A compliance-by-design framework aligned with the EU AI Act, data protection, and cybersecurity requirements ensures transparency, traceability, and human oversight.
GENESIS-EU validates its technologies in seven demonstrators across five EU Member States and two associated countries, covering transmission and distribution networks, industrial and non-residential buildings, microgrids, flexibility aggregation, and large-scale household data environments. Integration with European AI Factories and high-performance computing infrastructures enables scalable and reproducible deployment.
By increasing the availability of validated generative AI tools and enabling decentralised optimisation, flexibility assessment, and interoperable data exchange, GENESIS-EU contributes directly to the expected outcomes of the Work Programme and strengthens Europe’s leadership in trustworthy, AI-enabled energy systems.
