Perovskite Devices Manufacturing based on Inline defect control Repairing Strategies for Industrial Resilient European Modules

Objective

PRISM aims to accelerate the commercialisation of perovskite photovoltaic (PV) technology in Europe by developing advanced, scalable and sustainable processes and dedicated European manufacturing equipment. The project addresses key barriers that limit industrial adoption, including defect‑related efficiency losses, limited long‑term stability, material sustainability, and the absence of industrial‑grade perovskite production tools.
PRISM will introduce three core innovations: (1) aerosol‑assisted recrystallisation to heal nanoscale and microscale defects in the perovskite absorber, improving uniformity, performance and intrinsic stability; (2) a high‑volume spatial ALD system enabling dense, uniform metal‑oxide barrier layers to enhance device reliability at reduced cost; and (3) an integrated defect‑detection and laser‑repair tool that increases manufacturing yield and ensures robust cell interconnection.
These innovations will be combined with eco‑designed module architectures, green solvent systems, recyclable encapsulation strategies, and UV‑resistant glass to reduce environmental impact and comply with EU regulations. Two generations of 30×30 cm² modules will be demonstrated on an upgraded European pilot line, targeting 21.5% efficiency, reduced scaling losses, improved process capability, and extended operational lifetime validated through IEC and outdoor testing.
PRISM will deliver TRL7 pilot‑line validation of new equipment and processes and provide a blueprint for GW‑scale European manufacturing. Through techno‑economic, life‑cycle and circularity assessments, the project will support EU industrial resilience, reduce strategic dependencies, lower carbon footprint, and enable future large‑scale deployment of sustainable perovskite PV modules made in Europe.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
