Objective
AdMar will develop and de-risk a new generation of solid sorbent CO2 capture technology for point sources, using advanced porous metal-organic framework (MOF) materials with intensified cyclic adsorption and shipboard energy integration (waste heat and electrical power) to address one of the most demanding real-world capture environments: marine engine exhaust, characterised by low CO2 partial pressure (~4–6 vol% CO2; ≈0.04–0.06 bar), high humidity and contaminants, and highly transient operation. By tightly coupling materials discovery with process and system optimisation, AdMar targets a transformative improvement in capture performance and practicality: high capture rates across load changes, improved kinetics and selectivity, and reduced energy demand for capture and desorption via waste-heat use and an ultra-low net energy requirement suited to ships’ constrained onboard power availability. The concept is compact, modular and retrofit-ready, with structured sorbents engineered for durability (degradation, lifetime, regeneration stability) under representative conditions, while minimising health and environmental impacts (including water use). By project end, AdMar will deliver scalable “lead” structured sorbents, a TRL-5 modular CO2 capture prototype validated under representative conditions, and an engineering/safety evidence base (incl. TEA and LCA) enabling rapid progression to full-scale demonstration and deployment, delivering CO2 at transport/storage-relevant specifications with very low impurities.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
