Humanoid Robots For Elderly Home Care

Objective

Europe is undergoing a demographic shift as its population ages fast. Advancements in healthcare, improving longevity, and families having less children are leading to the number of older citizens increasing at a faster rate compared to the working-age population, with skilled immigration being used to plug the gap. This macro trend is creating significant pressure on healthcare systems, family life, and the economy across the EU and global north countries.

Devanthro is developing a Physical AI platform for personal robot assistants focused on elderly home care. Our Robody is a humanoid robot combining human teleoperation and AI to provide all hours of support. The platform’s core innovation is a human-in-the-loop autonomy stack implemented as a deployment-native learning loop: remote teleoperation in customers’ homes continuously trains manipulation policies. A conformal-prediction handover monitors AI policy uncertainty in real time and hands back to the human operator above a calibrated threshold, providing statistical reliability guarantees for safe autonomy. As AI capabilities mature, the system scales from 1:1 control toward 1:many supervision, where human operators oversee multiple robots and intervene only on request. The result is a holistic 24/7 support for daily life: continuous presence and monitoring, medication and chronic disease management, physical assistance and activation, at a fraction of the cost-per-covered-hour of traditional care, while easing the daily burden on families.

Our AIC Stage 1 work plan is broken down into 4 key work packages. Key milestones include consolidating our Regulatory & Supply Chain Foundations, Establishing our Data Governance and Ethics Baseline, Fully Validating our AI-Human Handover Protocols, and Validating our Value Chain & Commercial Model for pre-commercialisation activities. The delivery of all WPs and milestones will ensure our capabilities to move to the proposed next Stage 2 of the EIC’s AIC programme.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
