Non-invasive Glucose Health Technology

Objective

"Diabetes affects over 589 million people and remains a leading cause of severe complications including cardiovascular disease and blindness. Effective management relies on frequent glucose monitoring, yet current methods impose significant barriers.
Self monitoring with finger pricks is painful, inconvenient, and stigmatizing, leading to poor compliance. Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) have improved insights but remain invasive, requiring skin penetration, adhesives, and costly consumables. They are also prone to malfunctions and cover only 2–4% of patients due to cost, discomfort, and technical complexity.
Both approaches generate substantial biohazard waste, further limiting sustainability.
DiaMonTech’s D-Pocket introduces the first truly non-invasive glucose monitoring device. Based on proprietary mid-infrared photothermal detection, the handheld sensor allows users to measure glucose levels painlessly, simply by placing a finger or wrist on the device. The D-Pocket addresses the most cited barriers to regular monitoring: pain, anxiety, infection risk, and waste generation.
Non-invasive monitoring increases daily measurement frequency and this translates into significant reductions in microvascular complications and improved long-term outcomes, as demonstrated in landmark diabetes trials.
The D-Pocket is achieving better health outcomes for its primary target group - people with type 2 diabetes who currently rely on finger pricks. The D-Pocket empowers millions to manage their disease more effectively, and contributes to healthier, longer lives.
DiaMonTech AG is a medical technology company with the mission ""to improve the quality of life for everyone by unlocking health data"". It has received approximately EUR 25m in funding to date plus another ~EUR 10m during the EIC application phase and is currently seeking an additional EUR 2.5m grant and EUR 7.5m equity from the EIC to finalize development, achieve certification, and begin marketing the device.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
