Objective
Autoimmune diseases (AD) affect 1 in 10 people and cost the EU €57.2B annually. Antibody-mediated ADs share a common driver: a rare population of autoreactive B-cells that produce pathogenic autoantibodies. Current treatments rely on broad immunosuppression, which only manages symptoms transiently while leaving patients dependent on lifelong medication and at risk of serious infections.
Canopy’s proprietary Antigen-Drug-Conjugate (AgDC) platform introduces the first non-immunosuppressive, mechanism-based therapeutic approach capable of delivering durable remission. AgDCs combine two independent mechanisms: (1) rapid sequestration of pathogenic autoantibodies and (2) targeted elimination of the autoreactive B-cells producing them. Unlike current treatments, this dual activity preserves protective immunity while addressing the root cause of disease. The platform’s modular design allows rapid adaptation across multiple ADs by varying only the engineered autoantigen component.
The project aims to clinically validate MGAC-007, a potentially curative therapy for Myasthenia Gravis (MG). MG is a chronic, life-threatening disease affecting ~10 per 100,000 people in Europe. We will execute a Phase I clinical study at Charité–Universitätsmedizin Berlin, targeting Acetylcholine Receptor (AChR) Positive patients. Supported by the Charité Research Organisation and a network of 22 MG centres, the trial will assess safety, pharmacokinetics, and early biological activity. In parallel, a validated consortium of CDMOs will manufacture GMP-grade drug substance, ensuring a clear path to scale-up.
MGAC-007 addresses a TAM projected to reach €34B by 2035. Beyond MG, the AgDC platform has the potential to treat ~895,000 patients globally each year. By replacing chronic immunosuppression with targeted, curative therapies, Canopy will reduce long-term healthcare expenditure and dramatically improve quality of life for populations disproportionately affected by autoimmune disorders.
