Objective
CLIMATE-HUBS strengthens Europe’s knowledge valorisation ecosystem by empowering academic climate-tech startups and spinoffs to engage end-users, industry and society from the earliest stages of innovation. Although academic ventures generate breakthrough climate solutions, many struggle to translate research results into market-ready innovations because they lack opportunities to test desirability, usability and societal acceptance beyond technological validation. This challenge slows the adoption of climate technologies needed for Europe’s transition to climate neutrality.
To address this gap, CLIMATE-HUBS brings together a pan-European network of Climate Tech Innovation Hubs (CTIHs) connecting leading and emerging ecosystems. They will co-develop and pilot Climate Tech Valorisation (CTV) models that integrate user-centred approaches, participatory experimentation and co-creation practices into the climate innovation cycle. These models will help academic startups engage end-users, communities and industry stakeholders to ensure that climate technologies respond to real needs and market expectations.
24 pilot actions across Europe will enable innovation intermediaries to support selected climate-tech ventures to test and refine these practices to validate value propositions with stakeholders. Insights generated from pilots will feed into the development of a Climate Tech Valorisation Framework and Toolbox, offering practical methodologies, guidance and tools for innovation intermediaries, universities and startup support organisations.
CLIMATE-HUBS will also deliver targeted capacity-building activities for founders and ecosystem actors, strengthening skills in user research, co-creation and participatory validation. The validated assets will be consolidated and shared through the EU Knowledge Valorisation Platform, contributing to stronger European Research Area capacities for knowledge valorisation and accelerating translation into societal and economic impact.
