Valorisation of Academic spinoffs through Standardized Protocols and Innovation Networks

Objective

Despite world-class research, the European Union faces a critical 'valley of death' translating academic deeptech into the market. Academic spinoffs frequently struggle with subjective technology assessments, poor intellectual property (IP) collateralization, and a profound disconnect from industrial and societal end-users.

To overcome these systemic barriers, the VALOR-SPIN project deploys a quintuple-helix Coordination and Support Action designed to permanently upscale knowledge valorisation capacities across the European Research Area (ERA). The project shifts deeptech acceleration from a subjective art to a quantified science by engineering an open-access, 3-tier due diligence diagnostic blueprint and an automated ecosystem intelligence engine. This creates a transparent 'Trust Layer' that fundamentally de-risks early-stage innovations for investors and corporate buyers.

The consortium will rigorously select 20 high-potential academic spinoffs, mandating strict gender-parity, for intensive, IP-backed venture capability sprints. To physically validate market desirability and build public trust in science, VALOR-SPIN pioneers the integration of Societal Readiness Levels (SRL). Through a strategic showcase in the highly regulated agro-biotech vertical, the project will execute interactive living labs, allowing farming cooperatives and citizens to directly stress-test bio-innovations in a model to be replicated across strategic EU sectors in the future.

Ultimately, the project will secure at least 15 corporate pilot demonstration agreements, proving direct translation into the real economy. By synthesizing the empirical data from these pilot actions into validated sectoral replication manuals and European strategic alignment whitepapers, and formally ingesting them into the EU Knowledge Valorisation Platform, VALOR-SPIN guarantees sustainable institutional changes, equipping EU Tech Transfer Offices with future-proof blueprints for deeptech commercialization.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
