Objective
Cooling demand is emerging as one of the fastest-growing global energy challenges. By 2050, it is expected to more than triple, driven by urbanisation, hotter climate, and eCooling demand is emerging as one of the fastest-growing global energy challenges. By 2050, it is expected to more than triple due to urbanisation, rising temperatures, and expanding middle-income populations in warm regions. This trend increases electricity consumption, stresses power grids, and amplifies heat-related health risks. Buildings already account for nearly 40% of global energy use and about 30% of CO2 emissions, making sustainable cooling a critical priority for climate mitigation and energy security. Selective passive daytime radiative cooling (sPDRC) materials offer a breakthrough solution. By reflecting solar radiation while emitting heat through the atmospheric window toward outer space, these materials can cool surfaces below ambient temperature without energy input. Despite rapid scientific progress and growing industrial interest, market adoption remains limited due to the lack of reliable, standardised tools to quantify and compare cooling performance across climates and real building conditions. NEMESYS addresses this gap by translating the ERC Starting Grant HELIOS results into a deployable digital solution. The project will develop the NEMESYS Hub, the first integrated platform for standardised, climate-aware evaluation of sPDRC materials. The Hub integrates three components: ASTRA, a physics-based engine for climate-dependent cooling calculations; AURAMAT, a validated database of material properties; and AURA, an AI-assisted module that converts spectral and environmental data into actionable insights for building applications. By linking materials, climate, and design parameters in a single environment, NEMESYS enables reliable benchmarking, supports certification and design workflows, and accelerates market uptake of next-generation zero-energy cooling technologies.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
