Objective
Biological sex identification of human remains is fundamental to archaeology but is hampered by the cost and destructive nature of DNA analysis, or the inaccessibility of advanced proteomic methods. The PALAEOSex project will overcome these barriers by commercialising a validated, high-throughput, micro-destructive proteomic method into an accessible, fee-for-service platform.
The core objectives of this Proof of Concept are to: (1) fully automate the sample preparation workflow using a liquid handling robot to ensure scalability and reduce costs; (2) develop the 'PALAEOSex Portal', an integrated web application for client management, sample tracking, and execution of a unified, automated data analysis pipeline; and (3) establish a robust business model and commercialisation plan for a future spin-off company.
By creating this professional service, PALAEOSex will democratise access to state-of-the-art molecular analysis. This will enable routine, population-scale bioarchaeological studies that are currently unfeasible, transforming our ability to investigate past social structures, health, and demography.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
