ENABLING ACTIVE CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT IN A JUST GREEN ENERGY TRANSITION

Objective

E-ACT is designed to strengthen the scientific excellence and innovation capacity of the (Teaming-funded )PHAETHON Centre of Excellence in Cyprus in human-centred, inclusive, and just energy transition research. By building a strategic alliance with leading European institutions, it advances interdisciplinary research at the intersection of behavioural science, neuroscience, energy systems, and public engagement, addressing critical gaps in understanding explict and implicit drivers of citizens adoption of green energy solutions.

The project integrates state-of-the-art conceptual frameworks, advanced methodological approaches, and policy-relevant applications through structured Capacity Strengthening and SSH research management upgrade. This includes multilateral knowledge transfer on behavioural theories, experimental and mixed designs, citizen engagement strategies, joint Ph.Ds staff exchanges, and co-created demonstrator pilot studies. It integrates SSH-oriented open science and data management, and the institutionalisation of research management procedures aligned with FAIR, GDPR, inclusiveness and Ethics principles.

Core novelties include the development and validation of the Behavioural Readiness model, through cross-national pilots combining surveys, focus groups, and experimental/neuroscience paradigms. Activities enable the identification of citizen segmentation profiles and context-sensitive drivers of pro-environmental behaviour, supporting policy-relevant interventions for Cyprus and EMMENA. The project strengthens long-term capacity through governance alignment, quality assurance, networking, and training structures for early career researchers.

EN-ACT contributes to EU priorities on climate neutrality and energy transition by embedding social and behavioural insights into energy policy and innovation for the region. Outcomes support more inclusive, effective, and scalable interventions that enhance citizen participation and accelerate adoption.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
