TWINNING CAPACITY IN FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS FOR EVOLUTION AND CONSERVATION

Objective

FUNC-GEN strengthens BIOPOLIS’s functional genomics capacity to understand how genetic and regulatory variation drives phenotypic change, adaptation, and sustainable resource use. It addresses key gaps in BIOPOLIS: limited integration of regulatory genomics, multi-omics and predictive modelling; lack of standardised, reproducible workflows; uneven research management practices; limited support for competitive grant writing and funding acquisition; weak translation of research into innovation; and insufficient integration into leading international networks.
To targe these gaps, FUNC-GEN supports research excellence and innovation capacity in a Widening country through a structured approach with leading European partners, combining knowledge transfer, training, and institutional development. Functional genomics serves as the central domain to drive excellence and innovation, enabling BIOPOLIS to move towards predictive and mechanistic understanding of biodiversity processes and increased scientific, industrial and societal impact.
Its objectives are to establish reproducible workflows, build machine learning capacity for functional interpretation, strengthen research management practices, enhance securing competitive funding, improve pathways for research-to-innovation translation, and ensure long-term institutional embedding. These will be achieved through Twinning activities including staff exchanges, secondments, workshops, expert visits, and training, integrated within a pilot study to ensure practical application and knowledge transfer.
FUNC-GEN will implement standardised pipelines for data generation, integration, and analysis, while training staff to apply and maintain them. In parallel, it will enhance innovation readiness, stakeholder engagement, and research management, enabling BIOPOLIS to translate scientific advances into innovation and strengthen its position in the European Research Area.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
