EXTENSION OF APPLICATION AREAS OF LASER DOPPLER TECHNIQUES THROUGH INNOVATIVE METHODOLOGY TRANSFER AND INTERACTIVE VALIDATION

Objective

Extension of application areas of Laser-Doppler techniques through innovative methodology transfer and interactive multi-media validationThe project will facilitate the transfer and validation of a technology initially developed under the European Concerted Action "Laser-Doppler flowmetry for microcirculation monitoring". The transferred technology will promote the efficient use of information technology in the clinical application of Laser-Doppler (LD) methods and, in particular, support further development of user-defined software tools for the comprehensive analysis of LD signals. Furthermore, the project will offer additional support and consulting services in order to provide expertise and interpretation of LD signals up to clinical diagnoses. This will bridge the gap that presently exists between LD instrument output and reliable clinical diagnostic decision.A representative number of European clinicians from numerous disciplines will validate the technology including: (the Biomedical Research Group, Surgical Clinic of Marienhospital Herne, Ruhr University Bochum), the LD manufacturers (Perimed AB, Sweden and Oxford Optronix Ltd, England) and an information technology Company (Personal Solutions & Consulting (PSC) Hamburg). PSC will be responsible for setting-up and adapting a multi-media reference data bank together with an interactive LD learning and training data bank. European as well as national medical associations and societies will be involved in both the technology transfer process and validation procedure. Their involvement will promote the value of this project to the medical community at large. The project will enable LD manufacturers to offer a complete package comprising not only the LD instruments themselves but also new user-specific methodologies for reliable decision making in the clininc. It is expected that this will increase the competitiveness of the European LD industry as a whole. By exploiting the innovative technologies realised in this project, the leading position of the European LD industry will be assured, and indeed its position strengthened, in the global market. This project will not only promote high standards of diagnoses using laser-Doppler techniques, but also help to develop European standards of measurements and quality of LD products in accordance with the Global Approach to Conformity Assessment. Furthermore, by making expert knowledge available to less-favoured regions, the project also will contribute to European socio-economic cohesion.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
