Objective
New Media is a small, well experienced multimedia company based in UK which uses software to make and publish CD-I and other multimedia products. To ensure rapid market growth, these products must be developed at low cost for a mass market. Yet they must also have production values and standards similar that encountered in other mass media (e.g. television, music and print).
Like others in this emerging industry, we are encountering problems. Our software engineering must be efficient and replicable, but it must also flexible enough to fit in with the demands of creative people.
Funding from ESSI will allow us to experiment with a number of approaches and methods within a real multimedia project.
Our objective is twofold:
- to institutionalise the best practice within New Media;
- to disseminate our findings to the rest of the industry.
In this way we expect to contribute:
- to setting standards in an industry which currently has few of its own;
- to accelerating the growth of a market for multimedia products.
