European music Web and broadcast

Objective

The project developed an infrastructure for collecting data from public and private data collections held by artists organisations, producers, broadcasting stations, new media companies and collecting societies, and for dissemination via the Internet by web-casting and broadcasting to European citizens and to the global information society. Representatives of more than 1,000 European independent record companies, 50,000 European creative and performing artists, editorial departments of European Internet services and broadcasting stations participated in the implementation and demonstration of multilingual services connected to an online licensing and monitoring system based on MPEG-7 and MPEG-21.

The project reduced time-consuming operations for audio-visual workers in European broadcasting stations and new media companies, increased the competitive advantage for European music and media industries, supported cultural diversity as the power of the independent creative industries, and stimulated the development of a range of new digital services and products re-using digital content from European data collections.
