Objective
Medical imaging is becoming one of the leading healthcare sectors, gaining a central role in the medical domain. However, despite strong ICT advances in radiology, medical imaging has not yet experienced a real breakthrough, mostly due to the lack of commonly accepted European Radiology Classification and taxonomy systems.
In this context the ERDDS project aims at:
- Addressing this relevant limiting factor and exploiting the digital content available by radiology departments throughout the EU;
- Defining a referral European Radiological Classification, in both the medical and administrative domains;
- Setting up a European radiological digital data integration framework.
ERDDS will thus contribute to the integration of the European health care system and facilitate the creation and growth of the European teleradiology sector, also supporting exploitation of public sector data. Within the project a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure is being developed, tested and evaluated. Advanced technologies in the area of shared diagrams and ontologies, meta-data models and semantic Web will also be adopted.
