Objective
The objective of the proposed project is the validation and demonstration of an integrated methodology and tool, which is capable of providing quantitative estimates of the efficiency of gas injection in terms of miscibility in oil reservoirs. Such a tool does not exist today. The methodology is based on the knowledge that asphaltene precipitation occurs during compositional changes when gas is injected into under-saturated oil reservoirs under miscible conditions. Variation in the concentration of asphaltenes measured during oil production will therefore give qualitative estimates of the degree of the miscibility of the injected gas.
The integration of these data into the reservoir simulation will quantify these estimates and will pinpoint the areas where the gas has gone into solution or not. In this way the tool will provide field-wide valuable information on to what extent the injected gas has contacted and mobilised the oil in the reservoir.
