Objective
The aim of this project is to demonstrate a patented tyre pyrolysis process with energy and by-product recovery, first in a cement plant and subsequently in a full scale 17MWe tyre-to-energy power plant. Scrap tyre is undesirable for landfill, but has very high calorific value, and is due to the high natural rubber content a renewable energy source.
In tyre pyrolysis combustor scrap tyres are partially gasified producing fuel gas and residual saleable char. In the tyre-to-energy plant the fuel gas is completely combusted in a secondary chamber and is passed through the steam rising boiler used in the steam cycle electric power plant. The ultimate objective of this project is to demonstrate tyre-to-energy plant's long term technical and economical viability.
