Development of a commercial concept for variable speed operation of unregulated submersible compact turbines

Objective

The scientific and technical objectives of the project are:
- to develop, optimise and test a commercial concept for VSO of unregulated submersible compact turbines - to redesign a runner, intake and guide vanes for VSO
- to apply a new frequency converter concept for grid connected and stand alone operation (e.g. for rural electrification)
- to develop a new direct coupled permanent magnet generator with water cooling
- to prove feasibility of the VSO concept
- to reduce electricity cast at low head hydropower sites
- to increase the flexibility and operation range of the compact turbine series
- to develop a site specific software design tool for the proposed turbine concept based on efficiency and duration curves

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
