NET Agreement

Objetivo

According to the NET Agreement, the tasks of the NET team are:

- to define the basic objectives of NET, outline its essential components and determine the research and development needs for its later construction;
- to be the focal point and to provide guidance for the current fusion effort, particularly for the technology programme;
- to provide the technical elements for a decision on launching the detailed engineering design phase;
- to strengthen the European capability for international cooperation on the Next Step;
- to act as a focal point for the European contribution to the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) activity.

NEXT EUROPEAN TORUS (NET) History

NET was established in 1983 as the focus for European design studies of the machine to follow JET.

Scientific and technical programme

- To assist the Euratom Home Team Leader in the performance of his duties and responsibilities as described in the ITER-EDA Agreement and in any rules that the CCFP or FTSC may establish for that purpose.
- To keep a watching brief on the whole ITER-EDA and gather, assess and disseminate within Europe the information resulting from the ITER-EDA.
- To promote and monitor the R&D Tasks complementary to those assigned by ITER to Euratom.
- To participate in the long-term technical development of fusion and, in particular, in reactor and safety assessment studies.

Yearly budget : 12 MioECU (Including work under contract with Associations and Industry, but excluding technology R&D tasks carried out in the Associations).
