Objective
This project aims to design and develop a networked multilingual hypermedia data base.
The main idea is to implement a data base which allows to access data from any place in the world using a graphical hi-level interface with hypermedia functionalities. The user interface will be multilingual in the sense that the user will be able to choose his Language for the interaction with the system. In this project the available languages will be the official EU Languages, Romanian and Hungarian.
The validation of the project results will be obtained by three specific applications: the first one is a data base containing information about companies from Romania. This application will be used by the Italian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce. The second is related to a data base containing the Hungarian legislation. The third application is related to a data base containing all information about ISO quality standards.
The data base will be implemented using the global hypermedia browser MOSAIC from NCSA. MOSAIC is an Internet-based global hypermedia browser that allow to retrieve and display document from all over the Internet. A global Hypermedia means that information located around the world are interconnected in an environment that allows to "travel" through the information by selecting hyper links - terms, icons, or images in documents that point to other related documents. Any hyper link can point to any document anywhere on the Internet.
Also a stand alone version based on CD-ROM technology will be produced. This version will be made with the Microsoft Multimedia Viewer software. This Tool is a multimedia publishing toolkit for developing on-line publication and documentation. It is possible to create multimedia data bases with sophisticated searching functionalities and hypermedia links connecting text and graphics. This CD-ROM stand alone version will realised for commercial purposes.
