Oberwolfach 2005: Stochastics, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, Topology, and Applications

Objective

Oberwolfach 05: Proposal for support of 18 conferences in 2005 in Stochastics, Statistics, Discrete Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science, Geometry, Topology, and Applications. The Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO) is one of the leadi ng mathematical research centres worldwide. It organises weekly high-level international conferences in all fields of mathematics and its applications. The aim of these conferences is to present the most recent developments and to discuss further research projects. Many important developments in mathematics originated from one of these workshops and almost all relevant mathematical results were presented here and discussed by the leading experts. This proposal concerns a three series of six, seven and five conferences at the MFO in 2005 which are strongly connected to the above mentioned topics. Hence, these activities form a coherent series of events, with many thematic connections and some overlap between the participants within the different series. The t opics covered by these events are not only highly relevant in the international mathematical research, but also have very strong impact in applications to science and technology. These conferences highlight particular European research achievements and int erests. For example, they play an important role in the following thematic areas of FP6: 1. Life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health, 2. Information society technologies, and 6. Sustainable development, global change, and ecosystems. We should like to apply for support for these conferences within the programme "Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses / Series of Events (SCF)", in particular for support of 390 eligible event participants including travel support for 102 eligible event parti cipants in group 1 with a total amount of 279.900 Euro.
