Objective
The Transfer of Technology (ToT) methodology can be applied to many different areas. These include the support of research and design expertise, manufacturing capabilities and training etc. In the pilot application Know-How products will be distributed via a network. This will be established between Design and Development Industries (DDI's) and Local Recipient Industries (LRI's) or end users. A Know-How product may include documentation, training, and assistance. The methodology covers the areas of competence necessary for the DDI to transfer expertise to the LRI. These areas of competence may cover matters such as application design, training, documentation, configuration management, plant engineering, installation, testing and trialing, maintenance, etc.
The Consortium's objective is to develop Know-How products using Multimedia to facilitate a more efficient Transfer of Technology (ToT).
ToT can be used to realize transfer of different activities as research and design, manufacturing, training etc. This means that companies will gain more flexibility and thus competitiveness since operations can more easily be moved to regions where it is most needed. The advantages with regards to EU's regional support policy will, for this reason, also be considerable since it will be easier to establish new production.
The Know-How products are distributed via a network established between Design and Development Industries (DDI) and Local Recipient Industries (LRI) in different user communities.
The terms Transfer of Technology includes all activities necessary for the DDI to present to the LRI for building up a new production-line. These activities may consist of application design, training, documentation, configuration management, plant engineering, installation, test and trials, maintenance etc.
The multimedia Know-How products will to as large extent as possible use standard platforms (PC, Workstation, etc.)
To ensure general use of the Know-How product a structure shall be sought by exploring the use of state of the art standards and methods as
- CALS
- MIL-standard IETM (Interactive Electronics Technical Manuals)
- SGML, CGM
- AECMA-coding
- any other methods applicable
For a potential Pilot Project it shall be possible to apply these Know-How products in a real ToT-project and thus clearly demonstrate the usefulness of Multimedia in this type of applications.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
