New small scale innovative energy biomass combustor

Objective

Innovative combustion system: Compared to conventional grate-fired boilers, cost reduction min. 33%, from 175-235 EUR/kWth to 115 EUR/kWth (compact construction of the boiler, no refractory material); Low stack loss, boiler efficiency 3 % points higher; Equalised temperatures within furnace (high degree of turbulence); very compact combustion chamber; More complete combustion, even in the case of inhomogenities.

Scale up: Cost reduction by min. 33%, specific investment cost below 1500 EUR/kWel (simplification of every step; replication); net electric efficiency + 3% points; Thermal peak load coverage without increasing of rated power, electric power peak load coverage; Reduction of emissions (operation near the optimum). Demand side mgmt.: Complete new district heating system: less losses in the heating grid, smaller boiler for a maximum of full load operating hours. All: Shorter pay-back period (lower initial costs, higher efficiency and expected lower operational costs.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
