CHEMICAL DYNAMICS: Experimental and Theoretical Developments

Objective

The purpose of this proposal is to complement the existing experimental state of the art capabilities in the chemical dynamics laboratory operating at the ULF EU Large Scale Laser Facility at FORTH in Heraklion-Crete with analogous high level of theoretical and computational support, and conversely to complement the high level of theoretical and computational capabilities in the chemical dynamics laboratory in Madrid with analogous state of the art experimental know-how.

The chemical dynamics laboratories operating at both locations have both demonstrated excellence in performing internationally recognised experiments and theory respectively in gas phase reaction dynamics. At FORTH a plethora of complex chemical reactions have been studied producing a wealth of dynamical details concerning many reactions that go way beyond the benchmark 3 atom systems. At this point it is imperative to develop in parallel to this experimentally rich productivity, a computational and theoretical support team in order to understand and properly model the chemical processes studied. Analogously in Madrid a large number of chemical reactions have been studied with high-level theory. Being able perform experiments in the immediate surrounding would contribute enormously to the scientific output and the further development of the laboratory.

The two locations in Heraklion and Madrid have tremendous complementarity and would greatly benefit for knowledge transfer between the two nodes. The purpose of this proposal is hence to se ek out and hire qualified researchers with knowledge in Theoretical and Experimental Reaction Dynamics that would initially be introduced to the current state of the art in each node and then transfer this knowledge during the second half of the project duration to other node. At the end of the project the goal is to have the two nodes reach a high level of excellence both in experiment and theory.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
