Objective
This project aims to develop general techniques for preparation, manipulation and measurement of quantum states of matter and light for systems of various complexity and many degrees of freedom, ranging from simple qubits to multilevel systems, and from single-particle to entangled many-particle states in large ensembles. The emphasis lies on the universal applicability of these techniques to a variety of systems in the fields of quantum optics, quantum information, adiabatic population transfer, matter-wave interferometry, femtosecond physics, ion trap systems, Bose-Einstein condensation, and quantum dots.
The methods of laser control of atoms, molecules, ions and ensembles will use adiabatic and resonant interactions, coherent control, measurement-based feedback approaches and optimisation strategies to engineer specific quantum states of matter and also to transfer such states to and from the coherent light field. The project will combine the experimental and theoretical expertise of eight leading partner groups to establish, through training and transfer of knowledge and development of new areas of competence, a highly competitive research group in Bulgaria, at the cutting edge of research in laser-matter interactions.
The project objectives will be achieved by the following complementary actions:
- recruitment of very experienced foreign researchers, who will be invited to present lecture courses on advanced topics, thus delivering transfer of knowledge at very high levels;
- recruitment of experienced foreign researchers who will carry out research in collaboration with the local researchers, thus delivering more direct transfer of knowledge;
- outgoing visits of experienced and more experienced local researchers to the partner groups to get training and transfer of knowledge in specific skills and technique in order to benefit to the largest extent from the expertise of the partners and to develop research areas of new competence of the host group.
