Objective
Novel materials combinations enabled by the use of nanomaterials and macromolecules allow for the innovation of electrochromic display devices that have the visual impact of ink on paper, i.e. ease of reading in a wide range of lighting conditions. NTERA is Europe's foremost SME innovating such display devices and has built proprietary knowledge based on the transfer of University research to its business.
As the organisation has grown, research has evolved to development and engineering, creating the need to re-establish a fundamental research function. This is a principle objective of this knowledge transfer proposal and with past experience in research carried out by a trans-European team, the current action is an ideal opportunity to re-build this expertise and maintain a globally competitive position in this emerging industry.
NTERA realises that true innovation and novelty of approach is realised through the building of a multidisciplinary, trans-national experienced team, transferring their knowledge into the company and embedding this to ensure the sustainability of NTERA's research capability, in line with the objectives of restructuring the European research area. The quality of research is high and focuses on the disciplines of organic chemistry, electrochemistry, nanomaterials and functional materials for devices. As a small company NTERA strives to adopt methodology with the prime goal of transferring knowledge whilst providing an excellent environment for researchers.
A combination of on-the-job training, cross training (from individual expertise) and exposure to commercial environment constraints will endow researchers with a comparative experience to better form future academic\industry ambitions with respect to their career paths. NTERA's management team is internationally experienced and diverse and this too will ensure efficient transfer of knowledge and give researchers valuable opportunities for training.
