Objective
The main objective of the RIS-Lithuania project is to raise awareness and integrate innovation within the regional economic development strategies as a priority task. The project aims to establish the base for a policy-making process, to place innovation a t the heart of further reforms; to strengthen the creation and diffusion of knowledge in the economy and address the low number of innovative enterprises; to increase awareness and promote a culture open to innovation, creativity and cooperation. This will be addressed through the specific objectives: (i) improvement of awareness on innovation and building regional consensus, (ii) establishment of commitment by all key regional actors on the key issues of the project, (iii) establishment of an appropriate m anagement structure, (iv) analysis of the regional innovation system, including benchmarking with Partner Regions, (v) analysis of regional demand and strengths and weaknesses of regional firms, (vi) assessment of the regional innovation support infrastruc ture and policy schemes, (vi) definition of a strategic framework including a detailed action plan and the establishment of a monitoring system, (vii) implementation of pilot actions, (viii) promotion of regional and international networking in the field o f innovation. The RIS-Lithuania project will result in a consensus-based and demand-led innovation strategy for Lithuania, with specific implementation measures and an appropriate monitoring system. The projects objectives contribute to the scientific, tec hnical, wider societal and policy objectives of the Research and Innovation activity area: encouraging a more innovation-friendly environment, networking of players, stimulating technological innovation, setting up of innovative technology businesses and i mproving the cooperation and understanding between researchers, business, policy makers and society.
