Objective
The consortium undertakes to build and develop an organizational infrastructure RIS Mersin for promoting innovation in the region in accordance with the needs of business and priorities of the regional key actors. The Mersin Region is situated at the sou th side of Turkey at the Mediterranean seashore. The population of the region was found around 1,5 million habitants. The region is partly industrialized and generates 2,8 percent of Turkey's GDP. The Region falls under Objective -I classification of t he Commission. The Coordinator, Teknopark AS, is also the coordinator of IRC-Anatolia project, shall provide harmony between Mersin innovation strategies and the objectives and application of IRC-Anatolia. The Greece partner BIC of EPIRUS-Greece, coordin ating the Regional Development Agency will play a crucial role for the development and successful implementation of the project. The Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with Mersin University and Mersin Tarsus Organized Industry Zone shall p rovide regional data, assure regional consensus and support of key actors in the region. The RIS Mersin will the first regional innovation strategy prepared in Turkey which will be inline with EU based policies and strategies. The success of the project will increase national awareness towards innovation strategies and EU policies within the people of Turkey. All partners of the consortium have the sufficient resources for successful implementation of the project. The total budget for the project is c alculated to be 416,000 Euros for 32 months period. The whole project shall be developed and managed by the Steering Committee formed by the all partners and other key actors of the region. However implementation and the daily management of the project i s the responsibility of the project management unit, structured mainly by full time professionals.
