Analysis of signalling networks during the generation of unique cell fates in animal development

Objetivo

Over the past few years, it has become apparent that signal transduction pathways are organized into complex signalling networks that require high levels of regulation to generate precise cell responses. The elucidation of the underlying mechanisms by which these networks are built and regulated is essential for the understanding and pharmacological treatment of many pathologies in which signalling pathways are mis-regulated, such as neural disorders and cancer.

The aim of the project proposed here is to find functional signalling networks and to analyze how they are modulated during the acquisition of unique cell fates throughout animal development. For this purpose, fundamental biological processes that involve cell identity generation will be analyzed: progenitor cell specification, asymmetric cell divisions and morphogenesis. This project will be achieved by using a multidisciplinary approach that will integrate techniques of Genetics, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
