Objective
The fundamental concept of SERA is to act as a support for reinforcement of the Centre research capacity. SERA has four main objectives: Objective 1: increase the research competence and become a significant national, regional and European Centre.This will be achieved by mobilisation of present human and material resources; attracting new young investigators; increase collaboration with European research centres; monitor our results with scientists from MS and ACCs; Objective 2: boost the networking with E uropean Centres and enhance participation to FP6-Priority 1. It will be accomplished by enhance cooperation within and outside the country; expand the ongoing collaboration with specialists from MS and ACCs; disseminate our results to European scientists b y organising workshops and symposia; set up new collaborations with scientists from MS and ACCs and apply to FP6 calls; Objective 3: increase the local job and career opportunities for young researchers.This will be realised by improving working conditions and research facilities; offering attractive salaries; put forward opportunities for young scientists to be trained in European laboratories and to attend European meetings; set up PhD thesis in co-tutele; Objective 4: extend the scale and scope of the Ce ntre activities to better serve the social and economic environment. It will be attain by increasing the regional scientific influence of our Centre; diversifying the R&D topics according to national, FP6 and ERA goals; transfer the knowledge to specia lised SMEs; set up a ?Cardio-Diabetology Research Reports and Training Unit? to speed up the translation of knowledge from ?the experimental bench to the patient bedside?, thus responding to the societal needs to improve the quality of life.SERA will exten d the achievements of our Centre acquired as ?Centre of Excellence? of the EC (2000-2004), and will lead to a coherent reinforcement of the Romanian and regional research capacity so as to become part of ERA.
