Contribution to prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV

Objective

Our aim is to develop protein/peptide formulation for vaccines against HIV. The overall strategy is to take advantage of immunomudulatory effects of the mandatory BCG immunisation, to co-deliver HIV-antigens to enhance antiviral immune responses. To the knowledge, this approach is totally innovative and potentially very powerful as it represents a shortcut in the delivery of the vaccine, thereby avoiding many difficulties present in African countries. Our goals are to reduce disease progression in women of childbearing age and to prevent mother to child transmission of HIV. These steps are critical to preventing a social disaster in western Africa that will impact on national, regional and global scales.
